The Bowie VFD held elections for operational officers at its March 1st meeting. The Fire Chief is responsible for the operational side of the Department, Deputy Chiefs are responsible for individual stations, and the Assistant Chief oversees training. Bowie Chiefs also share battalion-level duties on a rotating basis with the other departments in PGFD's Second Battalion. Candidates for the position of Chief must satisfy rigorous training requirements and demonstrate that they have extensive experience with fire and rescue operations.

Fire Chief Lee Havens (Chief 19) and Deputy Chief Gary Steen (Chief 19A) of Company 19 (Huntington) ran unopposed. Captain Gary Blanton was elected to the position of Chief 39A (Free State) as Deputy Chief James Turner's replacement. Assistant Chief Jonathan Howard (Chief 43B), was elected to serve as Deputy Chief 43A in charge of the Pointer Ridge Station, succeeding Deputy Chief Jason Bloom. Pete Mellits was elected to the position of Assistant Chief 39B, filling the position left open by Deputy Chief Howard.
